There are 70 million people worldwide and more than 14 million Americans affected by eating disorders; of these 14 million Americans living in the United States, 200,000 live in Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, 5.4 million people live in Minnesota. Eating disorders are a big problem considering 4 out of 100 people suffer from an eating disorder in Minnesota alone. There are three main eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Although doctors do not yet fully understand the causes of eating disorders, this disorder can affect a person's body and mind years after overcoming an eating disorder (eating disorder). . An eating disorder is a life-threatening mental illness in which a person has an abnormal or dangerous disorder. eating habit, caused by past and present bodily visions, family or mental imbalances. There are many different options for someone with an eating disorder: (Engel) nutritional rehabilitation, individual psychotherapy, inpatient or outpatient group therapy, and family therapy (Miller). Eating disorders are not abnormal in today's society... (add more here) (Engel). The three most commonly known eating disorders today are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa is a disease linked to an abnormal diet; it is not caused by excitement, delusions, hyperactivity or a bad habit, it is a mental illness. The development of anorexia generally begins in early adolescence, but it can go unnoticed until thirty or even forty years old. Another eating disorder is bulimia, people with bulimia do not have time to think about daily life; all they think about is their next meal.
