    Becoming a firefighter is not an easy job. To become an Aerial Rescuer and Firefighter (ARFF), it takes a special person because of the unique level of tasks it requires. ARFF personnel must have a great deal of preparation and skill to respond effectively to any aircraft accident or incident. “Due to the wide-ranging nature of emergency situations” that ARFF personnel may encounter, they must be well trained to handle each of these circumstances (Jenkins, 2008). ARFF personnel are and must be universal in a wide range of tasks. ARFF personnel must have the understanding and ability to handle fires, emergencies and any other type of situation they may encounter. Some other requirements ARFF personnel must have may include an emergency medical technician (EMT) certificate or paramedic license. “ARFF personnel will likely encounter rescue, mass destruction, firefighting, and hazardous materials operations” (IFSTA, 2008). ARFF personnel are generally the first to respond to an aircraft incident or accident and must be fully prepared to deal with any hazards present on the scene. This document will discuss the different types of aerial hazards and support equipment for ARFF personnel. Airplane accidents have potential hazards involving fluids, structures, and components that can all burn at high temperatures. ARFF personnel must always avoid inhalation or ingestion of smoke, fumes and particles of a paper medium......y dangers and risks during any emergency rescue operation and fire fighting. ARFF staff must be knowledgeable and know how to respond to any emergency. ARFF personnel have the skills derived from advanced training and experience to respond quickly and rescue people in the event of an aircraft accident or incident. Technology has enhanced the capabilities of ARFF personnel to respond more quickly during emergency rescue and firefighting operations. PPE and other safety equipment helps protect ARFF personnel and must be worn at all times during any emergency rescue and firefighting operations. ARFF devices, support vehicles, and support equipment must be maintained and ready to support ARFF personnel during emergency rescue and firefighting operations.
