It was April 22, 2014 and it started like any other day. I had just gotten into bed with my mother as I usually did after waking up on school days, to find her looking solemn and hearing her say, "Debbie, Ethan was shot last night and was found dead at the scene." ". I remember lying in bed and letting those words sink in, trying to fully understand how this would change my life and my community. The words my mother spoke quickly shook my world like a snow globe and it took a while to calm down. Ethan was a family friend, who I had known for most of his short life on this earth. He was only 12 years old; however, he did not let his age hold him back; he loved coming to youth group with his older sister and spending time with us older teenagers. He could lead an intelligent discussion that exuded wisdom beyond his years. And honestly, he was the life of the party, but he was in a way that reminded others of his belief in God. Needless to say, his death had a huge impact on my community. Many of my loved ones began to wonder why. Why would this happen to us? Why God...
