    When we think of school, one of the first things that comes to people's minds is homework. Basically, if you asked your parents or grandparents, they would tell you that they remember the homework load. We all know by now that homework can be beneficial, but also very unhealthy with all the stress it causes. Over the years, the homework load has increased because schools think they have to try to keep up with other countries when it comes to teaching. And will doing all this homework now be of no use later? The homework load has increased in recent years and this causes a lot of stress for children and overall does not help their studies in the long run. Many students who feel pressure to succeed in high school have an unhealthy amount of homework. stress. Students who feel this way cheat, have sleepless nights, become depressed, and seek relief through drug use and self-harm. On average, in a recent Illinois high school study, high school students spent 3.07 hours each night on homework alone, not including extracurricular activities (Jerushapope, 2). Also at this high school, students reported sleeping 6.8 hours per night, but 34.6% reported sleeping 6 hours or less (Jerushapope, 2). Most high school students spend 2 hours of extracurricular activities each evening, not including homework. After these activities you have to go home and do your homework and then you won't have much time to sleep. Additionally, most children don't have much time to spend with their parents on weeknights. Some children can't even get to the table because they have too much homework and this is not healthy for the relationship between parents and their children. Middle of paper, ts are stressed just like their children. Plus, you never have time to exercise, so homework could be contributing to obesity here in America.
