Backpage made it easier for these sexual exchanges to take place in hotel rooms rather than on street corners. Although Backpage contributes greatly to this problem, many other cities do the same. The definition of human trafficking in Nevada is “the trade of persons who are then usually forced to work as laborers or prostitutes.” Traffickers usually hook their victims with promises of a better life. Human trafficking is considered a federal crime, according to the 13th Amendment. Human trafficking cases are the most difficult cases to defend. In the state of Nevada, countless serious charges are being filed. Most defense attorneys rely on lack of knowledge, financial gain, and illegal police activity to make their case. A lack of knowledge consists of the accused not knowing that the victim is illegal. So there is reasonable doubt in which the middle of a paper is louder than the words, and that is exactly what they do. This project uses art to express the struggle and difficulties surrounding human trafficking, in order to raise awareness. We have the power to end human trafficking.
