    Growing up, I aspired to be things that seemed to be on every young boy's bucket list in elementary school. We were trying to compete with each other, telling all our friends that we would become this or that in the future and that we would be famous or make a difference in the world. I remember proudly proclaimed that I would become an astronaut and find a planet where there is life! Turns out that’s one thing I won’t pursue. As graduation approaches for me, I aspire to go into the field of education and teaching in a secondary school. However, being a teacher comes with many stressors that can harm the instructor physiologically or psychologically. Whether an instructor teaches at the elementary, high school, or college level, he or she will undoubtedly experience some type of stress in their teaching. career. This may be due to lack of respect in and out of the classroom, an overwhelming workload and poor time management, or a lack of available resources. Either way, the instructor can fall into what is called burnout. According to Mearns and Cain (2003), burnout is chronic stress from working with other people that results in a bodily response of cynicism, emotional exhaustion, depression, etc. Not only does burnout have a negative effect on the teacher themselves, but it also ends up affecting the students in the classroom, who may be particularly unaware of their teacher's situation. However, not everyone will fall ill with burnout under a plethora of stress. There may be individuals, especially those with Type A behavior, who will thrive under stress and will not be affected by burnout.
