    The Romantic period spanning from 1800 to 1860 in American literature primarily revolved around romanticism. Romanticism is characterized by an interest and importance in nature, emotion and imagination. Two things that stood out to me about the Romantic period involving American literature are the different writing styles used in poetry and the famous authors during that time. To romanticize something means to make it more attractive than it really is. Reading the poem "Paul Rivere's Ride", a story about the famous Paul Rivere who warned everyone that the British army was invading by ship. I found many examples of romanticism in this poem. A quote I found said "through the moon like a prison bar", it makes you imagine a big scary ship in your head and makes you want to get chills. This is why poets romanticize. Another important writing style used in Romantic period poetry was imagery and figurative language. Imagery is the mental picture the poet gives you when figurative language compares something with something else, e.g. similes, metaphors....
