In order to understand colonization, it is important to consider the context of the events that led to colonization. In Spain for example, the reconquest of Granada as well as the search for new trade routes were important events which led to colonization. In England, the civil war between parliament and the monarchy also affected colonization. The living conditions of the inhabitants of the Holy Roman Empire are not considered good enough for future generations. The dynamics and developments in Spain, England, and the Holy Roman Empire were all important to the colonization of the New World. Many important events in Spain paved the way for the colonization of the New World. For example, Europeans craved spices from the East, but due to the war in Asia, they tried to find new trade routes. At the time, Europeans knew that the Earth was round, but they did not know how far the ocean extended, let alone whether there were other continents beyond the Atlantic Ocean. The demand for these spices enabled the completion of numerous expeditions, notably that of Christopher Columbus. Additionally, explorers of the time were considered "Renaissance men" who used new navigation tools such as the globe and sextant, and also referred to Greek and Latin maps. The Renaissance, its innovations and its new ways of thinking are at the origin of the expeditions and the ambition of explorers. As explorers traveled in all sorts of directions around the world, they gained more knowledge and improved maps, which are key aspects of the Renaissance. Additionally, after the reconquest of Granada, the men of Spain still had a frontier mentality that carried over to the New World. The combination of push and pull factors allowed immigrants from the Holy Roman Empire to aid the already established colonies of the New World. By examining the series of events that occurred in Spain, England, and the Holy Roman Empire, it is possible to better understand the colonization of the New World. Spain began to explore a world unknown to him and took advantage of it. England followed a similar path as a colonial power, but put pressure on its society. Finally, immigrants from the Holy Roman Empire sought a better life and set out to colonize the New World which felt more like a new beginning.
