    The study conducted by Yuksel and Tanriverdi in 2009 had one main objective. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of watching a video clip with English subtitles on college students learning English as a foreign language. More specifically, the study aimed to investigate “how English language materials with or without English subtitles would affect the vocabulary development of foreign language learners in a Turkish university setting.” Sample: 120 students participated in this study, all of whom attended Kocaeli University. in Türkiye. Before beginning their undergraduate studies, participants took 20 hours of English classes per week and attended 80% of the classes. Participants had a wide variety of majors, some including finance, business administration, education or journalism. All participants were recent high school graduates and had similar English proficiency levels (intermediate). This was determined by a proficiency test covering reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and writing. Participants were randomly assigned to groups with or without subtitles. During the study, 14 students failed to pass one of the tests or the treatment, so their results were removed from the study. The study was conducted with 104 participants; 53 students in the subtitled group and 51 students in the no-subtitles group. Methods and Procedures The study was measured using a pre-test, post-test and a control group. The students were randomly divided into two groups. Participants in Group A watched the video clip with subtitles, while Group B watched the video clip without subtitles.
