  • Essay / Hammer Theology - 395

Hammer TheologyIn order for us to move forward as a society, I believe we must adapt the same core ideas implemented by Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity's mission is simply to eliminate poor housing by partnering with families to build and renovate homes. They implement “Matching words with action” (Fuller 21). I think this is important because preaching the good word of God is not the only way to help people, as there are many ways to accomplish God's work. “We also know that talking and praying alone will never dig the foundations, and that piety alone will not build the walls. Only the powerful combination of word and action can get the job done” (Fuller 26). I really hate to make up old clichés, but simply put, “you can't just talk, but you also have to act.” » I firmly believe that Fuller's views are very realistic. The term “hammer theology” is essentially “…doing more than just talking about faith and singing about love. We have to put faith and love into action to make it real, to make it alive for people. Faith must be embodied. that is to say, it must become more than a verbal proclamation or an intellectual assent. True faith must be put into practice. (More complete 7). I don't consider this unrealistic. After all, there is no reason why people should limit themselves to praying for those in need in a church. If people have the choice to sit on a bench and pray for those less fortunate to find shelter, or to build them shelter in the name of God, why on earth would these people not want to lend a helping hand . Another point to support my argument is the facts. . Habitat for Humanity has built and renovated several thousand homes.
