Essay / Duty and Ethics: A Law Enforcement Officer's Perspective
This program is designed for children who, from a young age, know that law enforcement is something something they want to do in the future. This gives you a leg up on anyone who wants to become a law enforcement officer but has never participated in the program. The program is once a week for 2 hours, during the two hours of a meeting you learn discipline, do a lot of physical training and learn from the sheriffs what they learn at the academy. This program not only taught me a lot, but also made me realize that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was interested from the moment I arrived until the moment I had to move on. At age 20, I was hired as a cadet with the Laguna Beach Police Department. That’s where I learned the most, working in the field with police detectives. This is where I see things falling into place. I see cases starting from scratch, work my way to arrest warrants, and see criminals go behind bars. The detectives trust me so much that they show me everything they do and everything they do to catch criminals. I work alongside them to get everything they need, from collecting evidence to tracking down criminals. This job has shown me where I will be in the future and opened up many opportunities for me. These programs showed me what police officers and deputies really experience on a daily basis. It's not a TV show or a movie, it's real
