Essay / Navy SEAL Training for a Mission - 1841
Have you ever wondered how a Navy SEAL trains for a mission, let alone accomplishes one? How does a man become a Navy SEAL? Navy SEALs are well known, but their training and missions are classified information intended for the general public. Navy SEALs are the deadliest commandos in the world and can serve their country anywhere, completing missions around the world. There are many phases that must be completed to become a Navy Seal. The purpose of the Navy SEAL test is not to get people in shape, but to see what a person can handle mentally and physically. The first part of SEAL training is boot camp. Every SEAL candidate must complete this part to move on. The goal of boot camp, which is similar to other parts of SEAL training, is not to develop you, but to break you mentally and physically (Luttrell p. 57). After boot camp, SEAL candidates will go to pre-BUD/S. Pre-BUD/S is a training program used to build the candidate's strengths after deconditioning at boot camp. The training program serves to prepare candidates for BUD/S. BUD/S is a seven-month challenge that develops endurance and leadership. BUD/S stands for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (Luttrell 59). There are three phases in BUD/S. The first phase is physical preparation. The first phase is developed to reduce the number of people in the class by 80% (Luttrell 59). Four out of five people who go through BUD/S will quit. The first phase of BUD/S hosts the famous Hell Week. During Hell Week, SEAL candidates will sleep no more than five hours, begin experiencing hallucinations due to sleep depression and lack of food and water. SEAL candidates who clear phase one of BUD/S will begin phase two within the week. In phase two o...... middle of paper ......rell, Marcus and Patrick Robinson.
