Australia Research PaperAustralia is a beautiful country and continent at the same time. It is beautiful for its rich and ancient Aboriginal culture, as well as its spectacular natural environment, for example the Great Barrier Reef. Australian society is very well educated with a literacy rate of 99% and overall Australia is a country with many great values. Australia is considered a developed country and has the thirteenth largest economy in the world. It is known for its high life expectancy, education, quality of life, biodiversity and tourism. Australia has one of the longest histories of any other country and also a peaceful history. Australians have been involved in very few wars, but they have been around for thousands of years. Aboriginal Indians and Torres Strait Islanders have inhabited Australia for approximately forty to sixty thousand years (DFAT). These early people were also very strong in their tradition, which is probably why 88% of all Australians attend at least one public cultural event per year. For example, Australia is known for its city-wide festivals in Brisbane and Sydney (DFAT). In 1945 the population was around 7 million, but today around 23 million people live in Australia (DFAT). Of these 23 million people, 26% are non-indigenous (DFAT). Many people think of Australians as "laid back" or "relaxed" because of their unique English dialect and accent. The typical Australian accent is a bit like a strong British accent, but not quite. Some of the unique and common terms used by Australians are "the Barbie", which refers to barbecues like the ones we have in the United States. They also call their friends “friends”. Australian society is not like most societies today, they have an equal middle of paper......sources. This allows Australia to use these resources for itself but also sell them to make a profit and improve its economy. Australia's main industries are mining, industrial and transport equipment, food processing, chemicals and steel manufacturing (Briney). These all sound like low-quality, low-paying jobs, but they are all very necessary for the things we use every day, like our cars in steel factories. Tourism is a major player in the Australian economy: on average, each year, around 6.1 million people travel to Australia for their holidays. They also come for good reasons due to the natural beauty of the country. Agriculture also plays a role in the country's economy. Most of Australia's agriculture is carried out on the fertile southeastern plains and its main products include wheat, barley, sugar cane, fruit, cattle, sheep and poultry (Briney).
