Essay / Radical Feminism on Lana Del Rey - 1421
“The conduct and manners of women, indeed, evidently prove that their minds are not in good health; for, like flowers planted in too rich soil, strength and utility are sacrificed to beauty; and the exhibited leaves, after pleasing a discerning eye, wither, neglected on the stem, long before the season when they should have reached maturity” (Wollstonecraft 7). This is a point of view that many feminists adhere to and can identify with; the idea that women have bad intentions and goals for their lives, that they are treated like children and are predestined to act like children rather than adults. Although Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women was written in 1972, this perception of women still exists around the world and is a major topic of debate among feminists. Many aspects of life in modern Western society degrade and demean women, and although equality is the law in countries like Canada and the United States of America, television shows, movies and music say the opposite. Lana Del Rey is a popular female artist in North America and Europe. She recently released a new album called Born to Die. This album is very controversial among radical feminists because many aspects, such as the lyrics, contribute to the devaluation of women. Radical feminism comes from the second wave of feminism, it was created due to the failure of social and liberal feminism to firmly address the issue. women in society (Heywood 242). This form of feminism began to dominate in the 1960s and 1970s. Unlike other forms of feminism, it seeks to strip away patriarchy and observe how it affects women in politics, in the economy and especially in life social (Heywood 242). In conclusion, radical feminists seek to overcome patriarchy in the family structure, which will ultimately lead to a change in the way women are perceived. and treated, they will then be treated as true equals. Gender roles assigned not only to women, but also to men, must disappear because it is possible for men and women to have the same characteristics and skills. Women's gender roles, in which men are the dominant figure, will also disappear with the abolition of patriarchy. This can't happen if artists like Lana Del Rey continue to produce music and videos that make women look so weak and vulnerable and music that encourages men's sexual and social domination of women. The album Born to die, along with several other music albums and videos, is a look back at the journey of radical feminists..
