The novel had been written in order, but as we begin reading, the author helps us understand the plot by immediately stating that Santiago Nasar was going to do it. The phases of the novel had shown that Santiago's death was followed by many coincidences, which would appear to the audience as Santiago's destiny to die. These coincidences had made it possible to carry out the death plans rather than saving him.
