Essay / Essay on Uniting People in the Color Purple - 833
Uniting People in the Color PurpleRed, a color of hatred, a color of anger, a color of oppression. Purple, color of pride, color of love, color of triumph. The clash of colors and the union of a people. Think about how much more we would see if we didn't have eyes. Physical appearances govern the world; the spiritual and emotional gifts emanating from each individual are left to live an empty existence of incessant and stifling abuse and die a tragic and terrible death. Through colloquial diction, emotionally and spiritually turbulent episodes and an uninhibited and direct way of life. The writing style, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, astonishingly shows society's alienation towards African-American women. Célie, a simple woman, lived a life of penetrating violence. From a young age, the man thought to be her father shamelessly defiled her fourteen-year-old body for his own carnal gratification; she did “what her mother didn’t want”. With a violent act of violence, a childhood ended and a life of pain began. Celie's sole reason for existence was to serve the needs of a vile and abusive congregation of men. The white man destroyed the black man, the black man destroyed the woman. An endless cycle of resentment and insecurity dominated the lives of women who did not know their own talents and worth. Barefoot and pregnant, this was the only way of life for these abandoned souls. "She's ugly. But she's no stranger to hard work. And she cleans. And God fixed her. You can do anything you want and she won't make you feed or clothe her." Celie, sold, like a slave, into a loveless marriage, represents the indifference and ignorance of society. Celie's marriage to Mr.__...... middle of paper ......ug, Squeak and Celie fled from their oppressors to the North. Celie used her talent as a seamstress to create new fashions. A talent, once employed only at the request of her husband, gave her the necessary confidence to access a better future. The death of his father was a radical awakening. An era of abuse and vulgarity has finally come to an end. His hold on Celie and Nettie no longer existed, they were truly free. While waiting for Nettie to return and escaping the emotional turmoil of Shug's departure, Celie ventured home. The respect from Sofia, Harpo and even Mr._____ shocked and shook Celie's mind. Standing up for her rights destroyed an aura of weakness and caused her to redeem a sleeping spirit. The return of Nettie, Olivia, Adam and Shug finalized the unification of a family, a city, a nation, proving in the end that we are one. . .a nation of purple.
