Essay / First Impressions and Transformations: My Union College...
This has been the experience for me so far as I've tried so many new activities and really stepped out of my comfort zone to experience a passion or talent that I have never heard of. My first new activity was trying bhangra dancing, which is a completely different technique for me as I came to Union as a jazz and lyrical dancer, but my experience with bhangra has been amazing and I want to always continue it after a practice, which even though it really tired my leg muscles and made it impossible for me to go down the stairs for a few days, but the class was so much fun and we are all beginners and we let's all help each other. The first few days at Union are really fun even if they are tiring, but on those days you meet your OA group, whose members have the potential to become some of your first friends at Union. There are so many activities planned that new students don't even worry about homesickness and just focus on all the activities that await you, like the fun carnivals. Union also encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and this happened for the first time during the hypnosis show. I went on stage to “fall under hypnosis” and I wasn't embarrassed at the time and it was good if I was being funny. stuff on stage with everyone watching and it put an end to my fear of people judging me. Another club I joined was Campus Action. During the meeting, I became aware of many crises happening around the world and the event that struck me the most was raising the union's awareness of the Syrian refugee crisis. In this way, Union is not limited to the campus or local area, but also takes a global perspective and encourages its students to essentially become global citizens.
