Essay / Defining Network Topologies - 1641
What are network topologies?DefinitionNetwork topologies can be defined as structures of a computer network. It is normally how nodes or computers connect and work together within the network to perform the task of data transfer. Brief History of Network Topologies Sharing data and information was much more difficult in the early 1960s than today's sharing system because each of the computers was physically shared. The researcher had found a solution to solve the problem. So the computer network was invented. Packet switching, which was the new interaction protocol, had brought a major change that made secure voice transmission over military channels possible. Little by little, following the change of times, this interaction protocol became the foundation of machine-to-machine communication technologies. Furthermore, it was imposed on computer networks after a certain precision. Examples of Network Topologies Network topologies can be classified into four types. For now, star topology, ring topology, bus topology and mesh topology.Star topologyRing topologyBus topologyMesh topologyAmong all the network topologies, star topology is the main topic that will be covered in the following report. What is star topology?DefinitionStar topology is a network topology in which all nodes are individually connected to a central conduit to carry out data transmission. DescriptionStar topology is one of the most commonly used network topologies on the market. Based on the telephone switching system, it is also known as the oldest data exchange design method. Each of the nodes connected to the central conduit directly to make the data...... middle of paper ...... y, of which all the nodes are connected is to a main node which acts as the backbone. There are two terminators at both ends of the main nodes to absorb and clean the signal. Once the backbone fails, the while network will also be unusable. Wired star bus topology is another hybrid topology combining bus topology and star topology. All nodes are basically star-wired, connect to the central device, and use the single-bus data transmission method. The wired star bus topology provides coverage of longer distances than standard star or bus topologies. It can be used to interconnect different network segments. One of the disadvantages of using this topology is that the star wired bus topology requires more cables, hubs or switches, which will cause a bomb on startup cost. Modern Ethernet and Fast Ethernet are configured based on the wired star bus topology..
