Essay / Drugs and Drug Use - 749
Drugs are often sold illegally and under the radar. People who use drugs may abuse them, but also use them for good. Drugs are a part of America's history, as they have been used as painkillers and medicines. Not everyone uses drugs, but once you do, you can't live without them. The drugs can be abused by teenagers and people who buy them, but they can also be used medicinally and at home. Drugs can be highly addictive, especially in people who use them repeatedly. They usually can't get rid of them because they are very addictive. The main users of drugs are celebrities, teenagers and drug dealers. Celebrities use drugs because they think they make them more popular. When they try the medicine once, they cannot stop taking and using it. Teenagers use drugs to fit in with their friends or to make themselves more popular. They end up like celebrities by becoming addicted to what they can't get rid of. Drug dealers may consume drugs or simply sell them to celebrities or teenagers. (Colihan, Kelley) Teens can afford drugs, but not all teens use them. Those who use drugs start around the age of twelve. The survey was conducted among approximately 67,500 people aged 12 and over. It is estimated that 8% of respondents used an illicit drug in 2007, during the month preceding the survey. An illicit drug is an illegal drug that is also sold illegally. Those who use drugs may have family problems and/or bullying issues, which brings us back to the idea that they are trying to fit into society. The drugs people use must come from someone, but who? The drugs usually come from someone selling them on the street. These dealers get it from a higher source and from that top... middle of paper... down to the brain. (Chakraburtty) All medications are very expensive, but they do not all cost the same. Most drugs are not only illegal, but very difficult to sell without being caught by the authorities. The reason they cost so much is because they cannot be produced to a high manufacturing level. They are also not sold in small towns, but in larger cities such as Detroit, Michigan, Las Vegas, Nevada and Hollywood, California. (Wright, Bob) There are many different ways to use drugs, such as medically and at home. These methods are not always the best, as some people may abuse this freedom and overdose, become addicted, or even sell them to their friends. We also use drugs in very terrible ways, which lead to death or eternal illness. In conclusion, drugs are generally misused, but there are ways to use them wisely..
