    The definition of family has evolved quite significantly with the expansive growth of reproductive technologies in recent years. Furthermore, family is defined broadly and subjectively. The influence of new forms of reproduction has enabled structural changes directly and indirectly in the modern family unit. Within the content of this article, there will be an examination of how past, present, and future reproductive technologies have influenced family structure within the psyche of our culture. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the first and foremost definition of a family is a group of people related to each other. Obviously, this definition evolves depending on the individual circumstances a family may face. A group of people related to each other does not necessarily consider themselves family. The changing juxtaposition of how we interact with each other and define our small units in society depends more on how close we feel to the person rather than biological relationship, gender, proximity and legality . With the inclusion of sperm banks, egg retrieval, embryo freezing, the use of surrogates and in vitro fertilization at the forefront of family growth; a new dawn is dawning in how we integrate those we are connected with and those we want to feel close to. However, this is not a new and innovative concept. Family structure is a constant and ever-changing definition, as humans have long established and re-established who they choose to include in their personal family unit for a variety of reasons. The ecumenical formulation of reproduction as a whole applies to all people of all cultures since every human being is the direct result of reproduction assisted by technology or otherwise.
