Charles TaylorCharles Edward Taylor, which was his full name, was born in 1868 and the place was Decatur, Illinois. Around 1892 Charles met a lady named Henrietta (Etta) Webbert, shortly after they met he asked her to marry him. Henrietta had an uncle named Charles Webbert who owned a building that the Wright brothers would later rent to Henrietta's family. At this time, Charles Taylor was already working on agricultural equipment, small engines and bicycles. All these little details in Charles' life would make him the first AMT. About six years later, Charles would open a machine shop doing repair work, bicycle repair and small tool work. Over the next twelve months, he changed jobs to the Dayton Electric Company and sold his small business. Around the same time, the Wright brothers were devoting a lot of time to solving early aviation problems. So they needed an extra hand repairing their bikes so they could devote their time to fixing their flying machines.
