Essay / Sammy: A follower or a leader - 905
Sammy, a follower or a leaderJohn Updike, excellent author of a short story presents us in A&P, a part of adolescent life, easy to relate to the life of each. The film, in which John Updike introduces his character, Sammy, as a responsible and mature young man who works at A&P at the age of nineteen, conflicts with his rebellious actions and American adolescent behavior typical who tries to overcome the growing pain of adolescence in search of individuality in a society where respect for norms is obligatory and where speaking or showing one's sexuality is taboo. From the beginning, John Updike shows us Sammy's simple life in a small town and a future that is not very promising, with a job in the only supermarket in the area in a quiet day where "there is nothing nothing else to do but lean on the cash register and wait for the girls to come back. The whole store was like a pinball machine” (Updike 19), which doesn’t offer many opportunities instead of going to college like many of his peers did. John Updike's set, Sammy, illustrates the same kind of boring, everyday thing about the people at the checkout, which he describes as "The sheep pushing their carts down the aisle -- the girls walking against the flow of regular traffic (not that we have one-way signs or anything) -- were pretty hilarious” (Updike 19) and “scared pigs in a chute.” (Updike 21), for whom the unusual was not part of life and deviating from a model to be different is irritating. Their irritation is heightened by the presence of the three barefoot girls in swimsuits in a grocery store that is "five miles from a beach, with a large summer colony on the Point, but we are right in the middle of the city ". .”(Updike 1...... middle of paper ...... which in the end only brings disappointment. As a result of his actions, he must face the consequences of an uncertain future for him , has to confront his parents about his conflict with Lengel and being responsible for his action Sammy shows us through his action that it is important to act as an individual, to fight for what we believe in and. to express our feelings even if the outcome is not the one we envision. We are the future generation and we must change, build and live in a world that suits us, but at the same time we must be responsible and accept it. failure. an effort for more work through the lenses.
