  • Essay / Improving the management of student relations with social networks...

Social media applications have reached educational establishments. International universities have started to expand their teaching techniques and extend their principles on social media as a means of communicating with students. Analysis of the world's top-ranked universities and their performance on social media sites leads to data that shows that all social networks are included in communication with students. The most effective is Facebook, which was created precisely at Harvard University for the purpose of communicating between students. A few years later, they spread to Fun Pages, intended for commercial advertising. In addition to the social network Facebook appears LinkedIn, for commercial purposes. LinkedIn is working to reduce the age of users, explaining that it wants to make it easier for the younger generation, such as future students, to find the university to continue their studies. All this shows that universities are very present on the social network LinkedIn and that there can be a large amount of information about them. Many universities have their presentations on the YouTube channel, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, but much less on Pinterest, which may soon change due to the trend of dominating the market through social networks. The question is whether social media should be used for educational purposes and at what level. When it comes to connecting students to the online learning site or platforms, students' attachment to Facebook is much higher. This is especially during summer days, when students are on vacation. Students are advised not to want their studies to be moved from this social network, as they may be distracted by the constant notifications of what their friends are doing...... middle of paper ...... h2006 pdfTanja E Bosch, Using online social networking for teaching and learning: Facebook use at the University of Cape Town, November 2009 (online) Available: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/17439880902923606 Stutzman, F. 2008.
