Essay / Why I Want to Become a Doctor Essay - 771
I wanted to become a doctor because it would give me the opportunity to provide help to those in need and also because doctors are highly respected members of the community . I love science, and this would be an opportunity to use it while ensuring financial stability. Like anyone else, I deeply wanted to make my parents proud. These are all the conventional reasons why I wanted to become a doctor. Up until that point in my life, these were reasons enough for me to become a doctor. However, after my aunt passed away, I began to wonder if my reasons for wanting to become a doctor were really good enough or if I could become the kind of doctor who puts her patients above all else. I had a hard time answering this question. Then I realized that instead of wondering why I wanted to become a doctor, I should imagine the doctor I should become. I should be a doctor who values a patient's emotional stability over my financial stability, especially if I want to be not only respected, but also trusted in the community. I should be a doctor who uses his knowledge to help his patients, not a doctor who uses his patients to increase his knowledge. And I should be a doctor not because I want to make my parents proud, but because I should be proud of what I do.
