The conflict was the language barrier, as the students tried to explain to the Moroccan woman what Easter is. They all celebrated the same holiday but each described Easter differently and their French grammar was very bad when they explained. A student with his bad French grammar tries to explain what Easter is by saying: "He wore his hair long, and after his death on the first day, he came here to say hello to the people" (473 Sedaris). Each student had a different perspective on what Easter symbolizes and how it is celebrated. . The teacher explains how Easter is celebrated in France by saying: “here in France, chocolate is brought by the big bell that arrives from Rome” (473 Sedaris). One student argued that it is the rabbit that distributes the food and not the bell. The tone of the short story was sarcastic, humorous and witty as the Sedaris is well known for this and he incorporated it into Jesus Shaves. The main character explains with humor why the rabbit is the symbol of Easter and not the bell. The main character said: "a rabbit has eyes, rabbits move from place to place, while most bells can only go back and forth.” (473
