We've already discussed Piggy, so we'll start with Ralph. Ralph was the lead in this story and is the first character introduced, he is a young boy around 14 years old. He wants all the boys to build shelters, find materials, find food, and find a way to be rescued. Of all the boys, he was the most civilized boy, to keep everything from going to hell. Piggy was his only real friend, even if he was a little mean to him at first. Their only means of being rescued was by resorting to a signal fire; Ralph made it his goal to keep the traffic light going. You can see from start to finish that Ralph has changed, not too drastically like the others, but what made him change was that he almost gave in to the savagery but then fought back against her. Ralph is a protagonist whose story follows the goal of escaping the island and goes through the events on the island while trying to achieve his goal. Our other central character is Jack. He's about the same age as Ralph, he's a British boy like all the others, and he was made leader of the hunters, and he was just as jealous that Ralph was chosen as leader as he was. "Okay.
