What are organic foods? Organic foods are grown without preservatives, pesticides, chemicals, drugs and hormones. Organic foods are grown or raised using a different method than industrial foods. Recently, the organic market is booming due to the many benefits shown by studies on organic foods, in which they have better nutritional value than non-organic foods and are better for the earth. Harmful toxic substances derived from non-organic foods have been shown in studies to affect the health of individuals and the environment. Therefore, consuming organic food and using organic farming methods should be the way forward to improve health and preserve the environment. Today, many people tend to visit a doctor for an examination and come away with vitamins. and/or a mineral deficiency, or if you have been diagnosed with cancer. In recent studies, organic whole fruits and vegetables have been shown to contain more nutritional and anti-cancer compounds than conventional fruits and vegetables. A Newcastle University scientist studied organic fruits and vegetables and found that the organic group, grown without pesticides or harmful chemicals, was "more nutritious" (Chang). Additionally, a group of Stanford University researchers said organic produce contains more "phenols," which are "plant defense molecules that help people protect against cancer and heart disease." (Chang). This shows that eating organic is beneficial. for the body due to the additional vitamins and minerals and increased amount of anti-cancer molecules that help prevent cancer and disease.
