    Killing an animal for food is not unusual, but animal cruelty is different from simply killing an animal. Animal cruelty is the infliction of suffering or harm on animals. This animal cruelty is not only inhumane to animals but also the main reason for our affected food system. Millions of animals have increased in hunger, stress, pain, disease and unreasonable depth. Instead of leaving normal life, these animals are tortured and mistreated. For example, according to Jennifer Weeks' article, 20,000 chickens are raised in a 500-foot-long barn in Kentucky (Jennifer Weeks). A similar farm raises thousands of animals in such a small place that are crammed by the thousands out west into windowless wire crates. These animals never see sunlight or breathe fresh air until the day they are loaded into the slaughterhouse. During transport, the animals are thrown into the truck, without food or water. Ninety-five percent of the eggs Hans lays are intensively confined in a tiny metal casing. (The Humane Society of the United States).
