In the late 19th century, Impressionism was influenced by the tourism industry and the leisure industry. The new plein air paintings were introduced to many artists early in this period. This essay will discuss the paintings of Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, examining some of their paintings and the affection of insurgent industries as mentioned. Social unrest in France was part of the story. The paintings of Monet and Renoir served as a documentary of the emergence of social history, depicting the way of life in late 19th century France. The rise of tourism and leisure seems to be the main subject of Monet and Renoir's paintings. The following paragraphs will first discuss the industrial revolution and the rise of pleasure in tourism and leisure. Continue with the in-depth analysis of impressionist plein air paintings by Monet and Renoir respectively. Focusing on paintings painted in tourist destinations and leisure sites in the late 19th century, Monet and Renoir depicted important developmental phases of the Industrial Revolution. Therefore, in most of their paintings of the late 19th century there were clear indications of the changes associated with the uprising. Urban, industrial activity and transport boomed at the end of the 19th century in France. This revolution contributed to the development of the tourism industry as well as leisure activities present in certain places such as the Seine, Trouville, Chatou, etc. Eight new bridges were built and some were rebuilt to improve tourism in the Seine.
