Essay / Digital Audio - 1127
• IntroductionTechnology has opened the way for us to enjoy music in a more personal and convenient way. Gone are the days when we needed a huge investment, a large space and stationary action to enjoy quality music: the CDs and players that make us immobile, the lack of good music technology headphones and even poor quality amplifiers are gone. However, a more interesting aspect of technology that integrates sound and music is how studios and computers make it easier to record and compress sound without compromising quality. Indeed, without the use of compression technology, sound recordings will occupy much larger spaces than the compact files we enjoy today. It's worth remembering that what was once a 12-15 track CD is now capable of easily storing hundreds of tracks thanks to compaction. Furthermore, without sound recording, there is no way we will be able to hear the songs of our favorite groups without attending their concerts. An understanding of hearing, sound and its conversion into digital data is essential to correctly using sound recording and playback facilities. . It's also helpful to know the essential properties of digital audio in order to maximize sound editing techniques. • Digital sampling, filtering and compression. Sound production and digital sampling Sound is produced by variations in atmospheric pressure. Stringed instruments, primarily guitars, use vibrations to produce sounds. Electronic devices use speakers to facilitate the production of sounds (Marshall, 2011). Our ears are sensitive to changes in pressure, so we perceive them as sounds. Computers, however, cannot process analog sounds. It is necessary to convert sounds into discrete mathematical data (M...... middle of paper ...... also into frequency domain signals so that there is a simpler way to process the signals. Filters The frequency domain is used to perceive beats, apply reverb and add or subtract frequencies. Auditory masking and filtering are used to compress the sound file without compromising quality. wave and frequency processing through further study, more and more compression techniques and higher quality file formats will be obtained in the future. In reality, the music experience will improve as. sound technology will become more and more sophisticated.References1 Marshall, D. (May 9, 2011): From mic to MPEG!.
