The Effects of Different Parenting StylesParenting has a significant impact on a child's education. Many cultures and different families believe in different styles of discipline, and each type of parenting style influences the child's future. Although there are millions of families and each has their unique way of raising their children, different parenting styles can be classified into 4 broad categories. According to research conducted by psychologist Diana Baumrind in the late 1960s, the main styles of discipline are authoritarian, authoritarian, and permissive (1967). Later, a fourth parenting style, uninvolved parenting, was added. This article will analyze the parenting styles of Mr. and Mrs. Harsh-Heart and Mr. and Mrs. Easy-Going. Mr. and Mrs. Hard-Heart's strict parenting styles can be classified as authoritarian while Mr. and Mrs. Easy-Going's democratic parenting styles can be classified as authoritative. These 2 different parenting styles have different advantages and disadvantages as well as different outcomes in child development.M. and Mrs. Harsh-Heart discipline their children in an authoritarian manner. They have very strict rules and requirements that they expect to be followed, without question or any logical reasoning. There is little or no communication between parents and children and they use spanking as punishment. They do not provide positive reinforcement and show very little love and warmth towards their children. Because they were raised under strict conditions and punishments, these children's ability to follow the rules is excellent. However, because they were raised under strict guidelines, these children are used to following the rules. They are not encouraged and do not feel......middle of paper......d controversies which make it an ineffective and demeaning means of discipline. Because there are so many different people and cultures in the world, there are many different ways to raise a child. Although it is difficult to stick to certain parental guidelines (since children are very unpredictable), it is important to explore and implement different ways of disciplining in order to raise a balanced and virtuous child.
