Abortion is wrong because it is the murder of an innocent baby. Many people today think that there is nothing wrong with abortion. But not only does it kill a baby, it can also have long-term effects on the person having the abortion. Some people may die from their hemorrhage while others may have fertility problems afterward. This article will state exactly what abortion is, abortion statistics, the Church and cultural views on abortion, as well as options other than abortion, such as adoption. Abortion is when a baby is deliberately killed in the womb. There are many types of abortion procedures. One type of procedure is spontaneous abortion. A spontaneous abortion is an abortion that occurs naturally. This type of abortion occurs when the uterus rejects an abnormal embryo. A spontaneous abortion is often referred to as a miscarriage (Abortion Funk & Wagnalls). An abortion performed deliberately to end a pregnancy is an induced abortion. An induced abortion is often performed through surgery. Early in pregnancy, there is medication that will end the pregnancy if taken. About eighteen percent of abortions are performed while taking this medication (Abort 73). A therapeutic abortion is an induced pregnancy performed when the mother's health would be endangered if the pregnancy continued (Abortion Funk & Wagnalls). A curettage abortion is a procedure in which the baby's limbs are suctioned out of the mother's womb. Then all parts of the body will be scraped using a surgical instrument called a curette. In 2010, approximately eighty-one percent of abortions were performed this way (Abort 73). Abortion has many side effects, including death. Eight women died in 200...... middle of paper...... and have a chance of having a child. Instead of killing a baby, the child is given a chance to live and placed in a good home. Additionally, the mother will not have to endure the physical and mental pain associated with an abortion. In conclusion, abortion should be illegal because a baby is still a living person and deserves to have a good life.
