Essay / Questionnaire and analysis of Mikhail Bulgakov's heart...
Memory: What was the most memorable moment in the book for you? For what ? The part of Heart of a Dog that I remember most clearly is when Sharikov, the human dog, chases a tomcat around an apartment, causing a small flood. Sharikov is a large, clumsy human with the instincts of a dog, so chasing a cat doesn't work very well. I think this is the best part of the book because it is by far the most exciting and fast-paced.Ethics: Do the characters in the story demonstrate moral courage? How do the characters in the story decide what is right and wrong? With this book, it is difficult to answer this question because there is no problem that requires courage (moral or not) to solve. The dog-human, Sharikov, has the brain of a human, but the "heart of a dog", meaning he can speak, understand speech and feel human emotions, while also having instinct of a dog, which means he likes to chase cats and make decisions without any future thought. The only one who shows moral courage is the author, Mikhail Bulgakov, for writing this book at such a time. He wrote this book to inspire Russians to see what they were doing from a different perspective. At that time, the Russians were conducting horrible experiments to test new drugs. Bulgakov wrote this book to show them how stupid they looked to other countries, and that took courage. Sharikov, the dog-human, decides that what he is doing is fine because his instincts tell him so. He chases a cat, demolishes an apartment, and never catches the cat, and he thinks what he did to the apartment is good. Philippovich decides that it's okay to do a harmful experiment on a dog because it's legal. He doesn't consider it morally wrong, but rather... middle of a page... it's certainly a great book, but it's not the best book I've ever read . The sci-fi aspect where Philippovich turns a dog into a dog-human piqued my interest, but not as much as other sci-fi books I've read, like Fahrenheit 451 or Ender's Game. What I enjoyed most about this book, however, was just thinking about the effect it had on the Russians in 1925. It was written as a joke to make fun of the scandalous experiments that scientists, and was eventually banned. in Russia for doing it. I would definitely recommend this book because it's short, so you might as well read it, and also because it contains a slight sense of humor. I would recommend Heart of a Dog to older people who still have a sense of humor as the book was written in 1925, and would therefore understand the references better..
