This topic was especially relevant because it was the start of midterm week, a week where students drink a lot of coffee and energy drinks. This event was not as successful as expected, especially since the building where it was held is very busy and many students pass through it. Very few students, about 5 or 6, came to the table to participate in our activity, which was very frustrating. We also brought a large number of flu kits to distribute during our stay, and this too was very difficult. Students refused them almost 50% of the time, so it got to the point where we had to leave them in different locations for future students to pick up. This all came up during our weekly meeting with our supervisors, and so we were advised to schedule another health hub for this specific topic. This time we would go somewhere else, ideally outside on the quad, so we could hopefully have a more successful time. During our meeting, we were also given more tasks to complete throughout the week. Say no to plagiarism. It took me so long because I had to print everything on colored paper and then cut and paste everything before I could even display it on the whiteboard. Since SAD is such a common thing here on campus, my supervisors agreed to put my information directly on the main whiteboard located in the waiting room. I had to move the flu bulletin board that had been on the whiteboard for the last few months, and overall this task took a lot of time. Wednesday 3/6: Today I spent working on my gifts for the health center I will be at. run the next day. I had done some research and found a few items that were effective in helping students better manage common depressive symptoms, such as play dough, coloring sheets, and journals. I used my own project funding to purchase these items, and today I've put them all together into a little kit. I also met with Jessica, one of my supervisors, for my mid-semester evaluation. Here we talked about my capstone, what I had done so far, what I needed to do and how I was going to do it. We both agreed that I had done a decent job, especially since my topic was most relevant now and would become less and less relevant as time got better. I created a list of the different tasks I have completed so far,so that she and my teachers can see what I have been working on. Thursday 3/7: Today I started the morning meeting Teagan Peacock. , who is the person who runs the BeYouSU social networks. We talked about the different content she could use over the next few months and the different events we would host. Since the other interns and I are all students, I thought this was a great opportunity since we have a better idea of what content students would actually be interested in, versus non-students. I then had my SAD health center for the rest of the afternoon, which went very well. StudentsI seemed really interested in what I was talking about, and more students answered my questions correctly than I expected. The students particularly liked the items I handed out to them because they were very useful. Since it was so close to spring break and many of the remaining students were practicing for/taking exams, we did not have as many students as last time at this location. However, we still gathered around 40-43 people to participate in our activity, and so the event was a success. Friday 3/8: I didn't come today, because I left early in the morning to going home for spring. break.Week 9: 03/18-03/22Monday 03/18: Today was the first day back after spring break, and I spent most of the day getting organized and completing a part of my capstone project. I started working on the presentation I will give next week at the monthly staff meeting. Since I have already completed much of the research and the outreach portion of my abstract, my supervisors and I thought it would be easier if I simply gave a presentation at the April meeting. Since there are 3 of us interns, it would be very rushed if we all showed up for the May meeting, especially since this meeting is quite important to begin with since it is very close to the end of the semester. In order to have enough time to present, it was a good idea to move my presentation forward. My PowerPoint included very basic information, about exactly what I was studying and what study results I had found. My day ended with our weekly meeting with our supervisors, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, 3/19: Today, I began working on the tasks assigned to me during the staff meeting. the day before. One of the main tasks was to make some changes to the caffeine brochure I had made for an event. The event was not a great success despite the fact that it was on an interesting topic, so we scheduled another event towards the end of the semester. A few recommendations were made by my supervisors, and so today I have made the changes and done the necessary research. I also packed some more flu kits since I couldn't attend the packing party that was happening at night. I finished the day by going out and refilling condoms in the Women's Building and flu kits in one of the academic buildings. Wednesday 3/20: Today I had my third seminar for this class, then I spent the rest of the day starting my final capstone project. I did my usual daily tasks such as refilling condoms and flu kits at HS. I also spent part of the day reorganizing the condom supply here, making sure the refill boxes were full and the backup supplies were all in the correctplace. I updated the Excel sheet I had created for the supply, so the supervisors could see how much we had of each item. Thursday 3/21: Today was Carina's health center, so I spent most of the day helping her prepare for it and help run it. Her topic was antibiotic awareness and getting students to learn more about when and how to use antibiotics. Her event was a success and we were able to leave earlier than planned thanks to the distribution of all her gifts. The rest of the day I started working on the April Power Point slides. I divided the topics we wanted to include between me and the other two interns, and started working on mine. The April slides are very similar to the March ones, with the addition/removal of a few slides and so we chose to simply reuse some of the slides we had already made. It doesn't make sense to redo the exact same slides, and so this Power Point shouldn't take as long to create. Friday 3/22: Today I spent the day finishing my slides for the April Power Point. I also continued to work on my Capstone project. I wanted to start this project as soon as possible, since it represents a large part of my graduation requirements. I'm someone who doesn't do very well under pressure, and so the earlier I start articles, the better. I will reach out to Megan soon to discuss the conceptual framework of my article, so that I can be sure to choose the right one. I did my usual chores of refilling condoms and flu kits today, making sure the waiting room was stocked for the weekend. Week 10: 03/25 - 03/29 Monday 03/25: Today I spent the day finishing the remaining tasks. which was entrusted to me last week, to prepare for this week's meeting. I finished making the rest of my slides for the April Power Point, so they can be shown at the meeting. I also did my usual chores of refilling condoms and flu kits today. At 3 p.m. we had our weekly staff meeting where we were given new tasks for the week. Tuesday 3/26: Today I started the day by making recommended changes to my caffeine brochure. Even though the Caffeine Health Hub won't be around for a few weeks, we wanted to have the brochure ready to use so we didn't have to rush it. In addition to this, I also made the recommended changes to my April slides, so that everything can be ready to appear at the start of the month. Today I also went out and brought condoms to some places, to fill the trash cans we have there. Wednesday 03/27: Today, I started the day by meeting Megan, to discuss the different parts of the capstone project. I wanted to get started and work on my assignment as soon as possible because the end of the semester can be a very stressful time and I didn't want to rush anything. After meeting with her I was able to get an idea of what I needed to do, so I worked on some of that today. I also helped Anthony with his food safety brochure, as he wasn't sure what it should look like. I finished the day by stocking up on my condoms and flu kit. I also organized the giveaways for the HPV health center that were supposed to take place on Thursday but due to conflicts were canceled. The gifts included two condoms and two sets of lubricants in a carrying case.We are rescheduling this health center so these items will all be ready whenever we decide to run it. Thursday 3/28: Today I spent the day working on packaging a few more flu kits and working on my capstone project. Even though we stopped handing out flu kits this morning, my supervisors want us to put together the rest of the kits we have supplies for, so it will be easier for them to get around in the fall. Since I'm rarely able to attend packing parties due to work most evenings, I try to do my part throughout the week by hosting around 30 each day. I continued working on my summary, doing some research, and putting everything together. I ended the day by going out and bringing condoms to a few places on campus, to fill the trash cans we leave there. Friday 3/29: Today I spent the day making other flu kits and working on my synthesis. Since it was a pretty slow week, I figured this would be the best time for these tasks. I also went to a Barnes Center student committee meeting to offer ideas and feedback for the school's merger in the fall. Since I was a student, I have had a good idea of the best ways to interest students and inform them about what the Barnes Center will offer next semester. After that meeting, I spent the rest of the day finishing what I had been working on. Week 11: 1/4-4/5Monday 1/4: Today I started the day at 8:30 a.m., as we were instructed to do. come and watch a presentation on an HIV prevention drug. The drug and everything healthcare providers should be aware of (such as prevention rates it causes, symptoms, how students can afford it, etc.) were discussed during this presentation. Then we had an early meeting with our supervisors because we had to leave early. During this meeting, we talked about the different events we would be participating in/organizing this week as well as those in the coming weeks. A few tasks were given to us during the week. Tuesday 4/2: Today we had our HPV Awareness Health Center in Whitman, which went well. What we found was that students were not as interested in talking about a sexual topic as they were about other topics. The prizes were condom cases with condoms/lube inside, and several students didn't even want to take one even though they participated. This is a good example of the awkwardness that surrounds the subject of sex. Even if students are having sex, that doesn't mean they want everyone to know about it. We didn't have a large turnout and had to give out some freebies just to get rid of them. Outside of this event, I spent the day working on part of my capstone paper and delivering condoms to locations on campus. Wednesday 4/3: Today I started the day with our monthly staff meeting. During this meeting however, I was asked to give a presentation on my capstone project and what I had found. I've also included some of the recommendations I thought I'd offer as they might be interested. Based on the feedback I received following my presentation, it seemed that everyone enjoyed it. Several health care providers came up to me afterward and told me they enjoyed the presentation and thought I had chosen a very good topic. In addition to the staff meeting,I've been working on organizing some things in our office and putting together some of the kits we've been asked to make. In addition to making a few flu kits, I also put together some condom kits that will be given away at Mayfest. Our supervisor informed us that more than 1,500 kits of such condoms needed to be made, so it would be a good idea to start using them as soon as possible. Thursday 4/4: Today, most of my day was spent at the Sexual Violence Awareness Fair. We were asked to meet with one of the Health Services doctors to help educate students about the different exams/tests/support we offer to students who are victims of sexual violence. This event was not very popular because we did not receive any students. No one came to our table except to take some of the free pens and candy we were offering. I think the lack of participation was due to the fact that few tables were handing out anything other than pens/stickers along with the topic we were debating. Sexual violence is not a subject that can be talked about casually, it is a very sensitive subject for many people. Even if the students who came through Schine had seen the paintings and what we were talking about, I doubt they would have just come and told us about it. In addition to this event, the rest of my day was spent preparing everything so as not to leave anything behind before returning home. Friday 4/5: I didn't come today because I was going home for the weekend. 12:4/8-4/12Monday 4/8: Today I came in and finished a few of the remaining tasks from the previous week. We had our weekly meeting with our supervisors from 3-4:30 p.m. where we discussed the events of the upcoming week. I also continued working on my capstone project today. Tuesday 4/9: Today we had our health center with Anthony, on the theme of food safety. This event was a success and we managed to attract a decent number of people. After we returned from this event, I spent the rest of the day working on my summary. I also gathered some other flu kits and Mayfest condom kits, as those are two kits we have been asked to continue making. Wednesday 4/10: Today I finished my review article, with just some revisions to do. This was a relief for me, since I've been working on it for so long. I will go back later and make some changes to the document. I also continued to make flu kits and condom kits. There wasn't much going on today as we were preparing for the GYT events that would be happening the next couple of days. Thursday 4/11: Today was the first of two GYT days, and we reached our cap (of 75 students) towards the end of the day. This event is extremely popular and it appeared that many students came in groups instead of coming regularly throughout the day. There were times when we had no students (or only one/two) for a long period of time, and other times more than 10 students would arrive at the same time. This is likely due to class schedules and the fact that students are likely to come when they are absent or have finished their classes for the day. We expected to see a larger number of students on Friday, as most students do not have classes. Friday 4/12: Today was the second and final day of GYT, and we reached our cap (75 additional students) around 3 p.m. We had to refuse a certainnumber of students, even after allowing the testing of 11 additional students beyond the limit of 150. We saw that many students were coming with friends, which is why the numbers increased so quickly. The entire event went smoothly, with few issues (at least those that were within our control). The students seemed pleased with the event, and it will definitely be repeated in future semesters. If possible, they should try to increase their limit, so that more students can be tested. Even if we increased the limit from 150 students over two days to 175, we would not have to turn away as many and could therefore help improve the sexual health of more individuals. Week 13: 04/15-04/19 Monday 04/15: Today was spent getting everything back in order after last week's GYT events. I had a few things to catch up on, so that's what I spent the day doing. We also had our weekly meeting with our supervisors from 3-4 p.m. where we discussed the events of the past week as well as our tasks for the coming week. Since the semester is coming to an end, there isn't much to do. We only have 2 more health centers and a mini packing party, the rest of the tasks are just to continue making flu kits and condom kits for Mayfest. Tuesday 4/16: Today we had a mini wrapping party with Anthony where we all got together and made flu kits. We were able to do this for two hours, which allowed us to get a few hundred flu kits in total. Our supervisors asked us to make as many flu kits as possible by the end of the semester because they are moving to the Barnes Center over the summer and preferred to move the bins of already made flu kits instead of moving different ones. kits. components. These kits are extremely tedious to make, especially since each kit contains many elements. Outside of this prep party, I spent the rest of the day editing my summary paper and getting it ready for submission. I also went to the women's building to restock their safe sex reserves. Wednesday 4/17: Today I spent the day preparing flu kits and condom kits. I made the decision that once I had made a decent amount of additional flu kits, I wanted to start counting how many supplies we still had left to make. One of my supervisors also asked me to organize the closet that held these supplies, and I didn't want to do it until we received more supplies. I also started writing my internship reflection paper, since I didn't have much else to do today. Thursday 4/18: Today we had Clarissa's Health Center, which was about diet culture in the United States. It was a good event, as we had a decent turnout. The timing of this health center opening was better than the previous one at this location, which I think has a lot to do with the increase in attendance. We still had to go out and bring our questions/gifts to the people seated, but overall it seemed like a successful event. Then I spent the rest of the day working on some finishing touches to my summary paper. Friday 04/19: Today was dedicated to wrapping up the week. My timesheets and reflection journals were completed, and more flu kits and condom kits were made. I also completed my.
