Essay / Essay on the Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet - 714
William Shakespeare is a widely regarded writer and the greatest playwright in the English language. Romeo and Juliet is one of his most famous plays, the story of two star-crossed lovers who die because of the two families' feud. The balcony scene in Act2 Scene2 is also known as one of the most recognizable and memorable scenes in all of literature. After Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet ball, they instantly fall in love. Romeo later hides in the Capulet orchard and overhears Juliet talking about her emotions, he learns of her love for him. Juliet does not know that Romeo is listening to her until he speaks out loud, no one knows that the two lovers are meeting. This scene connects two main events in the plot where Romeo and Juliet exchange vows and confess their love to each other and foreshadows the haste with Romeo. and Juliette's relationship to come. The obstacles that the two lovers must face begin in this scene. The mood is sly, romantic and curious, leaving the audience hanging, nervous but excited. The mood is created when Romeo describes Juliet's beauty. The point of view in Romeo and Juliet is written in the first person. The audience and readers had insight into the character's thoughts, they knew everything that had happened. Shakespeare used figures of speech and imagery to make readers enjoy the play and imagine it. An example of personification: "Her vestal livery is only sick and green" (Shakespeare) when Romeo compares Juliet's beauty to the sun and says that the moon (representing darkness) looks sick and green because she is jealous of her. An example of a metaphor: “But, sweet! What light shines through this window? (Shakespeare) Romeo says this sentence when he sees Juliet at his window. “It's the East,...... middle of paper...... immature and amorous young man. Romeo's obsessive love for Juliet led him to Juliet, listening and watching her. He knew he might get in trouble, but he still went to her despite the consequences he would face if anyone found out; which shows that he is also a fearless and courageous rebel who took risks. Romeo is also desperate, emotional, and impatient; he would do anything to be with Juliette. Juliet is described as an angel from heaven, a beautiful girl who everyone and everything, even the moon, was jealous of her. The balcony scene from Act 2, Scene 2 is the most famous extract from Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare wrote this extract using imagery, figures of speech, with a romantic mood, describing the characters of Romeo and Juliet. This excerpt is my favorite of the entire play because of the beautiful, romantic mood and words Romeo recites..
