The global Nike Corporation has changed its policy from poor treatment of its employees which does not reflect Catholic social teachings on life and the dignity of a human person and dignity. of labor and workers' rights, but they have now made some minor improvements. In third world countries where big American companies were located, big companies moved largely to avoid problems in the United States (Schlafly). The reasons they moved are that they can hire workers at very low wages, the companies don't have to pay benefits, they don't have to worry about labor regulations, safety and environment and that they do not have to pay foreign taxes when they export their products. return to the United States (Schlafly). But the main reason they built these factories is because they make a much bigger profit. It's all about money, not people. Sweatshops have existed for centuries. Since the discovery of sweatshops, no other company has received as much criticism as Nike. Nike moved most of its production markets around the world because it brought them several advantages. Expansion into China, the most populous country in the world, opened up a huge opportunity to expand across Asia because there was the labor aspect in which cheap labor could produce shoes and other clothing more cheaply. Everything seemed good in the company as shareholders and managers received huge dividends and the public received excellent products. However, in 1991 when problems began, Jeff Ballinger, a labor activist, wrote a report on working conditions and wage levels for the Asian-American Free Union. Association (Nisen).
