As Powell states, “a culturally responsive classroom climate is safe… characterized by respect and caring.” Teachers build trusting relationships that allow students to take risks. Additionally, says Richard: “When students are subjected to unfair discrimination…the result can be low achievement. » Therefore, one of the central tasks of teachers is to create a classroom environment in which all students feel treated fairly and respected. Overall, culturally relevant pedagogy is an approach to using inclusive teaching practices to meet the needs of all learners. However, implementing such practices in teaching can be difficult for teachers, especially beginning teachers. Therefore, the final section of this report will highlight the challenges and effectiveness of using culturally responsive teaching.
