  • Essay / Macbeth Relevance Essay - 1109

Hello organizers of the “Barden Me – Revisiting Shakespeare” conference. Thank you for inviting me to discuss my views on the relevance of the works of William Shakespeare in contemporary society. In my academic opinion, I believe that Shakespeare's literary works are in fact still both significant and important in modern society. In particular, one of his most famous plays, “Macbeth,” undeniably demonstrates how Shakespeare's plays are still relevant to today's youth. Through the manipulation of the depictions, themes, relationships and events depicted throughout "Macbeth", it becomes evident that the values, attitudes and beliefs underlying the play are directly linked to our contemporary world. During debates about the course of action to adopt, it becomes evident that two rationalizing strategies of persuasion appear. The reasoning: to rationalize, contemplate, and recognize in relation to desire-driven passion is clearly evident when Macbeth states: "Duncan has displayed his faculties with such gentleness, has been so clear in his great office, that his virtues will plead as angels. » Macbeth does not find a legitimate reason to kill his king, in fact he considers it a good reason. Instead, he is driven by a passion established in him by Lady Macbeth and the prophecy of three witches. Likewise, throughout society we see this same passion that lacks reasoning. From Adolf Hitler, who led mass genocides, Osama bin Laden, the face of terrorism, Vlad the third prince of Wallacia, a vengeful patriot torturer, Idi Amin, an ethnic cleanser, Elizabeth Bathory, a bathing child murderer in the blood, up to contemporary groups in society. like ISIS. These are all examples of people driven by impulsive passion. This is relevant to young people in society because in one way or another they are affected by the actions of these people. Whether directly through family members who were victims, perhaps during World War II, or indirectly through the media exposing them to the reality of terrorist groups such as ISIS.
