Oscar Niemeyer has attracted the attention of many generations of architects; it became known as a key element of modern architecture. He pushed the boundaries, making modern a whole new concept. Oscar Niemeyer was not born under the name he is known by, he shortened his name. He was born8Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho. He was born on December 15, 1907 and lived to be almost 105 years old, but died ten days before his birthday on December 5, 2012.2Niemeyer was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro and raised there. He dropped out of school at twenty-one and married Annita Baldo and they had one child. He then pursued his passion for architecture at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts where he obtained a bachelor's degree in architecture at the age of twenty-seven. After graduating, he worked for his father in his typography house. He then worked for the architectural studio of Lucio Casta, Gregori Warchavchik and Carlos Leao, even if they did not pay him for his work. He worked there as a draftsman and was later known for his skills in this field. It was Lucio Casta who brought Niemeyer to the professional market. To get a better idea of how Niemeyer thought about architectural ideas, I'll share a passage from his memoir: “1I am not attracted to man-made angles or the hard, unyielding straight line. I am attracted by the flowing and sensual curves that I find in the mountains of my country, in the windings of the rivers, in the waves of the ocean and on the body of the beloved woman.
