  • Essay / The Weight Watchers Program - 805

The Weight Watchers Program was founded in 1961 by Jean Nidetch, who struggled with her weight throughout her childhood and adult life. One day she decided to try another diet administered by the New York City Board of Health in Manhattan, near her home. After two months, she had lost 20 pounds, but she realized that a very important part of her diet was missing: a support group that brought other people together to share their daily struggles with their weight problems. weight. She began writing down everything she learned at her meetings in Manhattan and began inviting friends who were struggling with their weight themselves. Soon, this diet that started with a few ladies in the middle of a lady's living room would later become a global icon. In late 1961, the Weight Watcher program began. In 1963, after only two years, Weight Watcher's was incorporated and in 1967, Weight Watcher's went global and became Weight Watcher's International, Inc., including Canada, Puerto Rico, Great Britain and Israel. Today, Weight Watcher's is one of the leading diet programs in America and is present in over 30 different countries. (Jean Nidetch, founder of Weight Watchers, shares his beginnings in 2010).
