  • Essay / Gender identity in society - 1099

As society plays a role in the lives of the majority of people, it is difficult to ensure equal opportunities between men and women. When it comes to work, women are expected to work on the front lines as secretaries, while men are given the opportunity to make decisions that benefit the company. Women feel that their bosses do not take them seriously because they are not considered potential candidates for the most prestigious positions in their establishment, even if they have a higher degree than men. Yale Global states: “Despite these advances in education, women continue to lag behind men in employment, income, business ownership, research, and policy…gender limits advantages of women’s educational advantage” (Chamie 2). Although women are at the top of their class and outperform men, society still places lower expectations on them because they are women, which is considered occupational segregation. If women have the ability to do a man's job, stereotypes should not place them in lower paying positions because of their gender. Women are constantly discriminated against because of their gender, regardless of their level of education and experience, because men feel less superior if a woman earns more money than them.
