  • Essay / Misconception and Misjudgment: Research and Interview...

For this interview, I chose a group in which, for Asians in general and Vietnamese in particular, is considered a low affinity group in which received many disapprovals and disapprovals. This group is LGBT. LGBT is an acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. They are defined as people who are sexually attracted to others of the same sex. History has shown that homosexuals have always been discriminated against; they have also experienced violence and harassment in our own society because of their sexual orientation. Even in the Bible, Jesus asked humanity to have children and since homosexuals do not have the ability to reproduce, homosexuality is considered an act of sin. That's why I chose this group because they are considered to have low affinity not only with my group but also with other groups. The person I chose to interview is one of my closest friends who came out as openly gay for about seven years. eight years old now. The reason I chose him is because he faced discrimination and abuse because of his homosexuality. My interviewee's name is Tom. I have known Tom for almost 15 years as his mother is a close friend of my family. He was born and raised in a traditional Vietnamese family, but he was sent to a French school from the age of six. He was therefore very receptive and open-minded towards different cultures, people and genders. Growing up, he heard a mix of good and bad messages about the LGBT community. Vietnamese society was still very conservative and had a negative outlook towards the LGBTQ community. This interview, however, changed my perspective as I learned more about his heartbreaking yet inspiring journey... middle of paper ...... and he didn't encourage enough Josh and started blaming himself. If Josh could see that everything will be better in the future, maybe not immediately but that there will be people who love him no matter what, then he would still be here with us. He was such a loving, caring and genuine guy. Tom hopes Josh is in a better place now. He carefully reminded me, “If you see a homosexual person or any other person being treated disrespectfully or unfairly, you should stand up for what I believe in and protect that person unconditionally, maybe you can save a life . » Finally, I ended my interview with questions about myself. I asked him how he thought I should behave or act to befriend and respect another gay person. He responded with a bit of sarcasm, “All you have to do is be yourself.” Don't pretend to like us "gays" because we can sense if you're pretending or not..”
