Indeed, ASEAN is disrupting the principle of non-interference in the management of its relations, a sign of a lack of credibility, importance and unity. Therefore, this policy brief will propose short- and long-term strategies that will redirect political and economic change in Myanmar in line with ASEAN interests. ASEAN Interest First, ASEAN's reputation is closely linked to the measures that should be taken to resolve the current Burma problem. political unrest. ASEAN has been criticized for the principles of the consultation-based “ASEAN way”; consensus and non-interference. These have always served as alternative means of avoiding confrontation and easing tensions in the short term. However, these conflict management measures within ASEAN pose obstacles to conflict resolution. Second, ASEAN's relations with other countries, including the European Union (EU), Japan and the United States, are conflictual. Indeed, these countries are ASEAN's main trading partners and investors, contributing almost 31.4% to the ASEAN economy. For example, the United States and within the EU, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark have criticized ASEAN's role in Burma's 2010 elections. It is essential to take steps to resolve this issue, as these EU countries might maintain their hardline positions, which could further undermine the various cooperations (economic, cultural, social) between ASEAN and the mentioned countries.
