Do the risks of e-commerce outweigh its benefits?E-commerce is one of the most important features of the Internet that has emerged in recent times. Electronic commerce or e-commerce involves the buying and selling of products or services through electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. E-commerce is growing exponentially. Any risk-reducing aspect of online shopping can therefore be expected to have an effect on the development of e-commerce. Risk has been frequently identified as one of the most intimidating reasons for people who participate in electronic commerce, regarding transactions in which financial and personal information is submitted to merchants via the Internet. According to the survey based on a national survey conducted by PIP among 1,220 Internet users, only 28% purchased Christmas gifts online, which would concern approximately 30 million consumers (Wang and Emuria, 2004). However, e-commerce helps organizations provide better customer services. Developed countries around the world have adopted e-commerce as one of the major sources of economic growth in the country. In 2009, according to the China E-Commerce Association and Alibaba Company for a nationwide online case survey, 59% of respondents believed that they were honest, and 80% of respondents believed that the success of e-commerce line depended mainly on credit (Shandan, Dan, Yunyun, & Yohghai, 2012). Additionally, the number of online product purchases has increased gradually since 2000, and at least one online purchase was made by 66% of respondents. In conclusion, this study argued that e-commerce has more benefits than risks in the business market. The research was carried out and found evidence to explain the effect of e-commerce development in different parts of the world. Adopting e-commerce has become one of the business strategies in recent times. Businesses in the later stages of e-commerce adoption are expected to sell more products and services than before. Furthermore, the study also demonstrates that people have started using e-commerce effectively over the years and demonstrated its effectiveness. (1019 words)
