VIRTUAL REALITY IN SCHOOLS Teachers report how their role in the classroom changes each year, instead of being a teacher who gives the answers, teachers found themselves as a support for students who help them construct ideas and obtain information from various sources. (Young But, 1998). The advantage of virtual reality in the education system is that it allows large groups of students to interact with each other as well as within the virtual environment. He is able to present complex topics in a way that is accessible to students, enriching, fun and easy to access. An example would be that an astronomy student could learn about the solar system. How it works by touching the planets, seeing the stars and moving through space, tracking the progress of a comet and much more. It also allows them to see how the concept works in the virtual environment. This is useful for students who have particular, creative learning methods or for those who find it easier to learn using colors, textures and symbols (Virtual Reality, 2009). There are two ways to use virtual reality in the classroom, the first involves a personal (desktop) computer with keyboard and mouse, or a controller. The other configuration requires the student to wear a head-mounted display. Teachers are starting to test the Oculus Rift during class time, but this is all in an experimental stage. A teacher uses it to calm children during conflicts or fights. The teacher had a student who withdrew from a sporting activity because he knew he was angry and could hurt someone. He could see he was in a high anger state and had used the rift on him before, I was eager to see if that would help. The program that the teacher used with him... in the middle of a sheet...... and just in a book. • Being fully in a virtual reality means there are very few distractions while you study. What you see in classrooms today are kids with phones, something going on through the window, Facebook, etc. • Immediate engagement, which means in the world we live in today with little attention this is useful. • Exploration and practical approach helps learning and retention. The student experiences their subject first-hand and can thus better understand what the subject is like. • It helps in understanding complex topics, theories or concepts. This is also probably the most important factor for the benefit of introducing virtual reality into the classroom. is that the current generation is the “digital generation”. Students are much more knowledgeable about technology than their parents and use it constantly..
