It has been many years since I took a writing course in a university setting. Before English 43, I would have described my writing skills as novice, but I believe this course gave me the tools necessary to progress and successfully excel in English 49. Since I acquired the tools, the experience and confidence in Writing in English 43, I am undoubtedly ready for the English 49 program. The tools I have accumulated in English 43 have prepared me for success in future English classes. My greatest growth lies in my ability to formulate a strong thesis statement. As the following thesis statement shows, I wrote: “Don't let your past memories fool you! When you find yourself in this undead battle, just remember to stay one step ahead, arm yourself accordingly and trust no one during your fight to survive the lingering wrath of the zombie menace . I was able to identify all the critical criteria to require in a thesis statement. Here, not only have I given the reader a general overview of what the article is about, but I have also listed my three main points that will be covered. This is important because the thesis statement provides an overview of what you will cover in your writing. Without a strong thesis statement, your reader is left without a clear overview of your position or point of view in your writing. English 43 also sharpened my ability to write a strong topic sentence. Introducing my first main point of the department's review I wrote: "Nettie's Internet use is simply out of control and she needs to change her daily Internet use before it gets too much late. » As this is an argumentative essay, my position on the issue is clearly stated; leaving the reader...... middle of paper...... our feelings about a piece of process we were asked to write. At this prompt, I wrote the three simple letters “FML”. The irony of my response is that this specific essay was chosen by my professor to share with the class. My essay selected to share with the class was by far the biggest confidence booster. After taking the English 43 course, I feel much more comfortable with my writing ability and always look forward to the finished product of the assignment. The many tools that English 43 has given me offer me a new vision of writing. The toolkit that English 43 provided me has prepared me for success in English 49. With the right tools ready to go, I am well versed in basic writing skills and more well-rounded than ever. Supporting me in my goals and helping me progress in English 49 IS the right thing to do.
