One day, while spending time with my sister, she brought up an interesting question: "Why do people always wonder why you don't drink, but they never ask themselves why you drink? » I started to think about this question. As a sober student, I was constantly asked, “Why don’t you drink?” » and I always tried to avoid answering it. I wondered why. I know I'm not the only sober student, but so few other students know this. I never even realized how many other students lived a sober lifestyle until I came to the University of Nevada, Reno and joined an organization dedicated to supporting sober students. So why is the sober community so unfamiliar to the broader campus community? When asked what the most popular thing to do at college on the weekend is, many students might respond with "go out and party", even many college students. students in recovery have this answer. Why has drinking and partying become the college stereotype? Students seem to find it strange to have sober communities because they believe that drinking and partying are part of the college experience. What they don’t realize is that there are thousands of sober students across the country who could greatly benefit from sober college communities. I don't think drinking and partying is part of the college experience. I think the whole point of college is to experience life; meet new people, prepare for your future career and learn to live alone in the world. According to collegedrinkingprevention.org, 31% of students meet the criteria for alcoholism and 25% of all freshmen drop out due to alcohol and drug problems.
