  • Essay / Color Vision and Babies - 1000

Color Vision and BabiesHumans learn colors before they learn anything else, in fact, it starts as soon as their eyesight develops, that is -say before learning the alphabet or even numbers; we learn to recognize colors long before we can pronounce their names. This is how infants recognize their parents and other familiar objects. Color impacts how we perceive the world around us, has a psychological influence on our feelings and distinguishes our (good or bad) taste. Color influences our mood, and as we grow, a certain preference for a color can say a lot about our personality. In order to understand how colors affect infants, we must first know what color is and how they are used in our daily activities. The basic concept of colors starts from 3 primary colors known as red, blue and yellow. Mixing each color with another of these primary colors creates secondary colors that include green, orange and purple and so on until we reach a very large color combination that we adults can see. So what do infants see? “Studies have shown that in reality, the fact that babies are colorblind from birth is just a myth. Infants have vision of 20/200 to 20/400 degrees and reach standard or normal vision of 20/20 by age 2. Babies can differentiate red from green at birth and by the age of one month they can see color. blue." (Bee, 2010) Has anyone tried to figure out why babies can only see red and green at first even though they have the same brightness level? This can probably be related to another color concept called harmony; more specifically complementary colors Color harmony gives a sense of order and balance. It is something that is pleasing to the eye, but the middle of the paper.. ....lor best suits our taste. Babies can be greatly affected by the colors around them and we should be able to create a healthy environment around your child. brain and the universe." (Klee, P.)ReferencesBee, H.
