    Knowing the warning signs of bullying can help students avoid thinking about suicide, feeling worthless, or withdrawing. Bullying is “aggressive and unwanted behavior in school-age children that involves a real perceived imbalance of power” (Stop Bullying Association). Statistics show that every year the mortality rate of victims of harassment increases. The Bureau of Justice School states that “46% of men, followed by 26% of women, admitted to being victims of physical fights.” Bullying statistics also show that approximately 77% of students admitted to being victims of some type of bullying. As the statistics continue to increase each year, it is important for parents to be aware of the signs and consequences of bullying. Parents, students and staff need to be aware of the difference between being bullied and being the bully. They must also be informed about the different types of harassment. Bullying can occur verbally, socially and physically, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Mortality rates would decrease if parents and teachers were more aware of all the signs of bullying. Educating parents and teachers about the different signs of bullying could make a difference around the world. Parents also need to know who is at risk of being bullied and who is at risk of being the bully. The four types of bullying include verbal, social, physical and cyberbullying. Each type of harassment has its own characteristics. All bullying is dangerous, but some types of bullying are more dangerous than others. For this reason, it is important to know the different characteristics of each type of harassment. Verbal harassment, for example, has several characteristics.
