Essay / Persuasive Essay on Climate Change - 1263
During an interview on Morning Edition with Ted Cruz and Steve Inskeep (host), the senator states that "the scientific evidence does not support global warming...satellites that actually measuring temperature showed no significant warming. This was an interesting statement because scientists usually show that climate change is obvious. Focusing on Cruz's chosen word, "no significant warming," is smart because when interpreting the data, it depends on what is defined as insignificant. For example, data shows that the global average temperature has increased by 6 degrees Celsius on average. This can be considered insignificant because 6 is a very small number. However, this is actually a dramatic temperature as an average global temperature. Additionally, a Washington Post article discusses Ted Cruz's claim that "many global warming alarmists" have no evidence to support them, and presents his evidence that "over the past 15 years , there was no warming recorded.” ". Not only does he target those who believe in climate change as "alarmists", making them appear to be overreacting to climate change, but he also exaggerates when he claims that there is "no no warming recorded.” However, the article proves Ted Cruz wrong when it quotes a scientist saying, "You can look at the data since 1980, and it's pretty clear that there's an upward trend in this area." But if you look at a 15-year period, it's much less clear that the trend line you're following can actually mean anything,” Mears
